The mobile network of 2020 starts to take shape
The mobile network as we know it has reached the end of its life. Traditional cellular designs can no longer sustain the rising volumes of data a mobile operator must handle, without incurring levels of cost which cannot possibly deliver profit in a world of price wars and falling ARPUs.
This report, based on detailed surveys and modelling of operators’ five-year plans for their network deployments and business models, will forecast investment in all these key RAN technologies, traditional and emerging. The resulting picture is one of dramatic change over a five-year period, and a whole new set of economics as carriers go through waves of mergers, outsourcing, virtualization, and often a profound rethink of their key revenue models.
